I love a wedding that celebrates culture while also celebrating all the love. Luckily, this bride and groom agreed to plan their day but also celebrate their Chinese heritage.

Chinese ceremonies are historically simple, In fact the wedding ceremony was seen more as a way to announce the wedding, which was then followed by the banquet of wonderful food.

During the ceremony, the bride and groom would be seen presenting tea to parents, spouse, and guests where they would pay homage to heaven and earth.

The tea, usually with two lotus seeds or two red dates in each cup, would be offered to the bride and groom’s parents, finally, the bride and groom would bow to each other completing the ceremony.

Red envelopes: Following the tea ceremony, gifts are given to the bride and groom. They can usually be red envelopes containing money.

They can also consist of jewellery handed down from mother-in-law and female relatives to the bride.

Afterwards, the bride and groom then take seats and hand out red envelopes containing small denominations to younger siblings, cousins and extended relatives.

In modern weddings, the bride generally picks red which Lynsey did she looked totally gorgeous (following Chinese tradition)

Then the bride changed into her white wedding dress for the western ceremony which again Lynsey did.

Both dresses looked wonderful, but I have to say,  I think Lynsey and Ken looked outstanding in their traditional wear.

Working with Lynsey and Ken to make their wedding day very unique in every way,  was such an exciting project.  This young couple new exactly what they wanted to achieve and how their day was to run.

Lynsey and Ken, have an amazing passion for food so they choose to have a sea food menu, which was delicious starting with Scallops, Cullen skink, Halibut then finishing off with Apple crumble, my mouth is watering even now writing this.

I have to say they were such a lovely young couple with so much style and so in love, I will always remember this wedding as a truly wonderful day.

Lynsey’s Words

I am 27 years old and I work at the Herald Events Team in Glasgow. I enjoy the outdoors and I am always up for an adventure. I married Ken Chung on the 24th May 2016 who is self-employed and he is my best friend.

We met 8 and a half years ago at a party and my friend who I had went with had disappeared and I saw Ken standing there so I decided to go up and speak to him and we just got on really well and things just progressed into a real, long lasting loving relationship.

Ken proposed to me in April 2015 and he did well in keeping it a secret! We took a trip to the Isle of Skye for a few days and we walked up one of the Cuillin Mountains and at the top, we stopped for a lunch break with our sandwiches and he said some really beautiful words and took the ring out and proposed. I was laughing, crying and freezing at the same time.

I knew I wanted a venue where it was near the mountains and a beautiful loch. It was a huge priority to me that it would have an amazing scenery as I wanted to have the ceremony outside and it was very fitting for me and Ken who love the outdoors. When I drove down the hill towards the Lodge for the very first time and seen the tree house, the loch and the mountains in the background, I knew this would be the place I would get married. It was absolutely breathtaking.

Alice was amazing and so friendly. The rooms were beautiful, the scenery, the tree house and the food was so fresh and tasty. Loved it.

We decided to keep up with the outdoor theme and walk the West Highland Way, two days after the wedding. We were so lucky, the weather was amazing, sun the entire time and we loved it. What a way to end the whole experience.

Hopefully kids in the future, a nice home in the country and just generally a happy life with my husband. This is all I wish for.

Alice Words

It’s one of the most universal traditions in the world. But, it’s celebrated differently by everyone.

Each culture has its own ways of making someone’s special day extra special.

Put your heart, mind, and soul into even your smallest acts. This is the secret of a successful marriage.
