A wedding dress is both intimate and personal for a woman, it must reflect her personality and style….
Shopping for a wedding dress is a once in a lifetime experience, but with so many gowns to choose from, it can also be incredibly overwhelming.
You want to look absolutely breathtaking on your wedding day, so choosing the right wedding dress is so important.
Whether you are looking for a traditional white gown or for an alternative style, you want a dress that suits you and showcases your beauty.
With so many styles and widely varying prices, it can seem daunting to find that perfect dress. Like with many things for your wedding, choosing the right dress involves careful planning.
One of the most important pieces of advice I can give you as a wedding planner, is to test how comfortable the gown is, by moving around in it, sit down, dance, and walk up and down the shop.
Remember, if a gown is so tight that breathing seems like a luxury, ditch that gown.
It may not seem like a big deal now while you are caught up in the honeymoon stage of buying the dress. However, you don’t want to spend your most cherished day battling the gown instead of relaxing and enjoying yourself.
Follow your gut instinct, choose a dress that is flattering to your body, rather than what is trending.
If you have to keep pulling up the top because you’re worried about a wardrobe malfunction, do yourself a favour and don’t waste money!
I have helped many brides put on the wedding gown, and they will say to me tighter Alice, I can go a little tighter, then just before dinner they call me to say.. “Please loosen the dress before I eat” as they are very uncomfortable.
Amazing Dresses
I have been fortunate to have seen some of the most amazing designer dresses over the years…
Vera Wang
Vivienne Westwood
Jasper Conran
Stella McCartney
Jenny Packham
…and many more, all totally beautiful with a style to suit every bride.
For me, there has always been a dress that has stood out in my mind over the past 35 years, I was 16 when “Lady Diane Spencer” married Prince Charles at St Paul’s Cathedral on Saturday 29th July 1981.
Her dress was totally breath taking. Designed by David Emanuel this spectacular gown, made of ivory silk taffeta and antique lace, had a massive, 25-foot-long train.
This dress had to make a statement, after all there was an audience of seven hundred million people watching the ceremony.
It’s very important to remember to choose the dress that feels right for you, no one else.
I have seen it happen too many times where a bride gets the dress that everyone else wants her to wear and is miserable.
Remember, this is your dress and your day. You should feel beautiful and confident in the wedding gown only you can make the right choice.
If you are slightly unsure if it’s truly “The One” try adding a veil to help get yourself in the wedding-day mindset and see if you could imagine yourself walking down the aisle in this dress. If the answer is “Yes” and you don’t want to take it off, that’s a sure sign that your search is over.
Say Yes to the dress…
There is something about a wedding gown, its prettier than any other dress in the world…
